Materials & Construction
At TREK Geotechnical, we understand that the success of a project hinges on the quality and integrity of its materials and construction practices. Our materials testing and construction services ensure that every phase from design through to completion meets the highest standards of performance and safety.
How We Help
Materials Engineering
Our in-house CCIL Certified materials testing laboratory offers a full spectrum of soil and aggregate testing services. We provide quality control testing for borrow and aggregate materials used in engineered fills, base, and sub-base applications. Additionally, our mobile operations enable us to offer quality control testing services remotely, and we’ve established on-site laboratories for several long-term projects.
Key Services:
- Moisture Content Determination
- Atterberg Limits (Plasticity)
- Grain Size Analysis (Sieve and Hydrometer Methods)
- Unconfined Compression Testing of Soil and Rock
- Proctor Compaction Testing
- Field Density Testing (Nuclear Densometer, Sand Cone)
- Sample Extruding and Visual Classification
- LA Abrasion
- Hydraulic Conductivity Testing (Flexible and Rigid Wall Permeameter)
- Consolidation Testing (Oedometer)
- Concrete Sampling and Compressive Testing
- Quality Control Testing for Aggregate Production
- Asphalt Sampling, Testing, and Mix Design
- Triaxial Testing
Dynamic Pile Load Testing (PDA Testing)

A non-destructive procedure that measures driving stresses, evaluates hammer performance, assesses pile integrity during driving, and collects data for signal matching analysis to determine pile capacity and establish driving criteria. TREK owns a Pile Driving Analyser (PDA®) and utilizes the Case Pile Wave Analysis Program (CAPWAP®) signal matching software. With over 10 years of dynamic testing experience throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan, we perform dynamic testing and analysis on various pile types, including concrete (driven or cast-in-place), steel, and timber piles.
Key Services:
- Dynamic Monitoring Using the PDA® to Evaluate Driving Stresses, Hammer Performance, and Pile Integrity During Production Piling
- PDA Testing of Precast Concrete Piles, Steel H-Piles, and Pipe Piles
- PDA Testing of Cast-in-Place Concrete Piles
- Signal Matching Analysis Using CAPWAP® to Measure Pile Capacity, Distribution of Shaft Friction and End-Bearing, and to Confirm Driving Criteria
- Forensic Assessments of Existing Piles
- On-Site CAPWAP Analysis to Quickly Resolve Non-Conforming Piles and Develop Field Solutions
Construction Monitoring

We ensure projects are built to design specifications, follow best practices, and meet quality standards. Early identification of deviations allows for timely corrective action and alternative approaches when conditions change. TREK provides comprehensive monitoring services tailored to each project’s needs.
Key Services:
- On-site QC materials testing (soil, aggregates)
- Pile installation inspection and PDA testing
- Sub-grade inspection and oversight
- Contract administration and reporting
- Instrumentation and monitoring (settlement sensors, piezometers, slope inclinometers, vibration monitoring, soil temperature)
- Real-time data acquisition and analysis
Where We Work
Buildings
From industrial plants to high-rise towers, we support every stage, from site investigation and foundation design to slab and pavement construction, temporary shoring, underpinning, and quality control testing. We also tackle the unique challenges of building additions, working carefully to protect existing structures.
Transportation Infrastructure
Highways, interchanges, bridges, and tunnels, we design materials and construction systems that stand up to extreme climates, challenging soils, and heavy traffic. Our collaborative approach helps align design objectives with construction realities for the most cost-effective solutions.
Community Infrastructure
Sewer and water networks, flood protection, treatment plants, and utility corridors. Our designs factor in groundwater control, excavation safety, and long-term durability for critical public infrastructure.
Energy
From hydroelectric dams to power line foundations, we handle complex materials and construction challenges for generation, transmission, and distribution projects, often in demanding terrain and climates.
Mining & Industrial
We bring deep experience in tailings dam design, mine closure planning, heavy equipment foundations, and industrial site development, plus advanced testing to confirm performance before and after construction.
